Institute of Health – Forum Community Rules

The Institute of Health Forum is a professional, collaborative learning environment supported by IOH Facilitators and Student Support Mentors.

Its purpose is to support understanding, application and ethical practitioner development.

IOH Support and Response Times

The Forum is actively supported by IOH Facilitators and Student Support Mentors to encourage discussion, guide learning and support the application of course content.

For questions marked for Forum discussion, our team aims to respond within 2 business days of posting.

This is a target response timeframe rather than a guaranteed response. Questions must meet Forum posting requirements to be eligible for support.

Questions submitted for live calls will be prioritised according to the live call guidelines outlined below.

By participating in the Forum, you agree to the following rules:

1. How to Post Questions

For each question:

  • Choose one relevant Forum category only
  • Ask one clear, specific question
  • Include the outcome or decision you are seeking
  • Provide brief, relevant context only
  • Share your current thinking or reasoning
  • Reference resources you have already explored
  • Indicate whether the question is for Forum discussion or a live call

This applies to all question types, including:

  • case discussions
  • concept clarification
  • food or supplement considerations
  • coaching and adherence questions
  • business-related questions relevant to health practice

Clear questions with clear outcomes allow facilitators and peers to support you more effectively.

2. Blood Work Rules

  • Individual blood marker questions are permitted without full case requirements
  • Blood work cases may only be added to the forum or brought to live calls if all guide requirements are met, including:
    • required modules completed
    • assessments passed
  • All blood work must be transferred to the IOH blood work sheet and fully redacted
  • Blood work cases must include a completed Blueprint and your own written hypothesis

Posts that do not meet requirements may be removed and guided back to the appropriate learning steps.

3. Peer Engagement and Collaborative Learning

  • The Forum is a collaborative learning space
  • Students are encouraged to read, engage with and contribute to other students’ posts
  • Thoughtful discussion, clarifying questions and educational insights are welcomed
  • Engagement is encouraged even when a question is marked for a live call

Learning at IOH is active rather than passive. Peer discussion strengthens understanding, challenges assumptions and supports deeper application.

4. Professional Conduct

  • Communicate respectfully and professionally at all times
  • Maintain a non-judgemental and supportive tone
  • Engage in constructive discussion
  • Disagreement is acceptable; disrespect is not

Ideas may be questioned or critiqued. People may not.

5. Educational Scope Only

  • All discussion must remain within an educational scope
  • Do not diagnose, prescribe or treat medical conditions unless otherwise qualified
  • Use educational language such as indicates, suggests or may be associated with
  • Refer and collaborate with licensed health professionals where appropriate

6. Mandatory Use for Live Call Questions

  • Questions intended for live calls must be posted in the Forum first
  • Questions must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to the call to be prioritised
  • Posting in advance demonstrates preparation and engagement with the curriculum

The Forum supports independent thinking and problem solving; it does not replace it.

If more than 6 eligible questions are submitted for a call:

  • Priority will be given to the first 6
  • Remaining questions may be carried over to the following week or answered within the forum

Posting in the Forum does not guarantee a live call response where requirements have not been met.

7. Use of Forum Categories

  • Post questions only in the most relevant category
  • Do not cross-post the same question across multiple categories
  • If unsure, use the General Health category

The Complex Cases Forum is reserved for cases that exceed or fall outside curriculum coverage

The Student Support Forum is for administrative or platform-related questions only.

8. No Promotion or Lead Generation

  • The Forum is not a marketing or networking platform
  • Self-promotion, lead generation or pitching is not permitted
  • Do not direct students to private messages to access information or resources

Responses should support learning, not personal or business gain.

9. No Unsolicited Private Messages

  • Do not send unsolicited private messages to other students for business, services or collaborations
  • Networking should occur organically within public Forum discussions
  • Any use of DMs for pitching, lead generation or solicitation is prohibited

10. External Links and Resources

  • External links must be relevant, educational and non-promotional
  • Affiliate links, personal content or promotional material are not permitted
  • External resources may be shared when directly relevant or requested

Facilitators may remove external links at their discretion to maintain learning integrity

11. Use of Forum Content

  • Forum discussions are confidential and intended for IOH students only
  • Do not copy, screenshot or share Forum content outside the platform
  • Forum participation may not be used for data collection, lead generation or marketing

12. Purposeful Contribution

  • Posts should be relevant to your learning, application or professional development
  • Aim to ask questions that support forward progress within a focused discussion
  • Repeated off-topic or unclear posts may be moderated

13. Moderation and Enforcement

  • Forums are moderated on business days
  • Facilitators may guide, redirect or remove posts as needed
  • Repeated breaches may be escalated

Removal of content is corrective and supports learning standards.

14. Responsibility

  • Posting in the Forum does not guarantee a response where requirements have not been met
  • Students remain responsible for their own learning and preparation

The Forum supports thinking, reflection and application; it does not replace them.

Institute of Health – Student Forum Guide

Purpose of the Forum

The Institute of Health Forum is a professional, collaborative learning environment supported by IOH Facilitators and Student Support Mentors.

Its purpose is to strengthen understanding, encourage discussion and support the practical application of course content and ethical practitioner development.

The Forum exists to:

  • Support implementation of concepts taught in the curriculum
  • Encourage independent thinking and problem solving
  • Foster collaborative discussion between students and the IOH team
  • Create shared learning through peer contributions and discussion
  • Build a growing resource library reflecting real questions and applied reasoning

The Forum is not an assessment tool.

It is a learning environment where questions are welcomed and curiosity is encouraged.

If something is unclear, that uncertainty is part of the learning process. The Forum exists to help you develop your understanding through facilitator guidance, peer discussion and practical application.

IOH Support and Response Times

The Forum is actively supported by IOH Facilitators and Student Support Mentors.

Students are also encouraged to contribute to discussions and share relevant insights while awaiting a response from the IOH team.

How the Forum Fits Into Your Learning

The Forum plays a central role in how live calls are structured and facilitated.

Questions submitted in advance allow facilitators to:

  • Review context and reasoning
  • Identify common themes
  • Prepare discussion prompts and breakout room facilitation
  • Support more effective and focused learning during calls

Just as importantly, posting in the Forum allows other students to engage, reflect and contribute, often strengthening the question before it is discussed live.

Not every question needs to be brought to a live call.

You may also choose to start a Forum discussion and receive feedback directly within the Forum.

Both approaches are encouraged and peer engagement is valuable in both cases.

Mandatory Use for Live Call Questions

If you intend to bring a question to a live call, it must first be posted in the Forum.

This process serves several important purposes:

  • It demonstrates preparation and engagement with the learning material
  • It shows that you have explored the curriculum and formed your own thinking
  • It allows facilitators to prepare discussions in advance
  • It creates opportunities for peer discussion before the call

Questions must be submitted at least 24 hours before a live call to be prioritised.

If more than 6 eligible questions are submitted for a single call:

  • Priority is given to the first 6 eligible submissions, subject to available time
  • Remaining questions may be carried over to the following week or answered within the Forum

Questions submitted after the 24-hour window may still be addressed if time allows, but this is not guaranteed.

Posting a question does not guarantee that it will be addressed during a live call.

How to Ask a Strong Forum Question

To support meaningful discussion and useful guidance, Forum questions must be clear, specific and outcome-focused. The following structure applies across all question types, including case discussions, concept clarification, food or supplement considerations, coaching and adherence, business development and practical application.

A strong question includes:

One Clear Question

Be specific about what you are seeking support with.

Avoid broad requests such as “Can you review my whole case?” or “Can you check if I have missed anything?”

Instead, identify one area where you would benefit from further discussion, guidance or clarification.

One Clear Outcome

State what you are hoping to gain from the response.

For example:

  • Help choosing a first priority based on your findings
  • Help deciding between two options
  • Help identifying what you may be missing in a specific area
  • Help simplifying a plan based on a specific client
  • Help deciding what to address now versus later
  • Help identifying realistic coaching or adherence strategies
  • Help understanding a specific condition or physical symptom

Clear outcomes allow facilitators and peers to respond more effectively.

Brief Context

Only include information that directly affects your question or decision.

This may relate to:

  • A client or hypothetical case scenario
  • A personal, friend or family member's scenario, discussed within educational scope
  • A specific symptom, condition or relevant health history
  • Coaching, adherence or capacity barriers
  • Food foundations or key nutritional considerations
  • Supplement considerations, reactions or tolerance

Always protect personal and client confidentiality. Remove identifying information and ensure discussions remain educational rather than requests for individual medical advice.

Your Current Thinking

Share how you are currently approaching the situation.

This may include:

  • What you believe is happening and why
  • How you are sequencing or prioritising
  • Where you feel uncertain
  • What you are considering as a next step

You do not need to have the correct answer before posting.

Sharing your reasoning allows facilitators and peers to understand your approach and guide your learning more effectively.

Resources Already Used

Reference any relevant modules, tools, guides or existing Forum discussions you have already explored.

This helps others understand your current level of knowledge and direct you towards the most appropriate learning resources.

Your Intention

Clearly indicate whether:

  • You are seeking discussion and feedback within the Forum
  • You intend to bring the question to a live call

Even when a question is marked for a live call, peer discussion in the Forum is encouraged.

This structure is not intended to restrict questions. It supports practitioner-style reasoning and collaborative learning rather than relying on others to do the thinking for you.

A Note on Time and Getting the Most Helpful Response

To maximise the number of students supported, facilitators typically have around 10 to 15 minutes per question in a live call setting.

To help you get the most value, ask yourself:

What do I most need in order to move forward within the next 15 minutes?

This usually means choosing one area of focus:

  • The first priority
  • The next step
  • The most important consideration
  • The simplest adjustment
  • The best option between two choices
  • A practical coaching or adherence strategy
  • The most relevant food foundations for a condition
  • Key considerations for a specific condition or life stage
  • The best module to explore next

Questions that clearly state the decision and desired outcome are easier to address effectively and lead to more valuable discussion.

Examples of Strong Forum Questions

Students use the Forum in many different ways, whether to bring questions to live calls, create discussion or receive feedback on their reasoning.

Questions do not need to be highly technical to belong here. They do need to be clear in intent, relevant to learning and focused on a specific outcome.

The following examples demonstrate the types of questions that can support productive discussion.

Health, Nutrition and Client Cases
  • “Based on the Priority Order of Dysfunction, what would you prioritise first in this case and why?”
  • “I'm unsure whether nutrition or lifestyle changes should come first for this client. I'm leaning towards nutrition because of [reason]. What else should I consider?”
  • “This is my current thinking on this case. Can anyone help me identify what I may be overlooking in this specific area?”
  • “How would you approach adherence when a client understands the plan but struggles to follow through?”
  • “What are 2 to 3 coaching strategies that could support progress without overwhelming the client?”
  • “What are the key food foundations you would consider before introducing more targeted nutritional recommendations?”
  • “What are the key considerations I should understand about this condition before exploring potential interventions?”
  • “How would you interpret this blood marker alongside these symptoms and what would you consider monitoring rather than acting on immediately?”
  • “Which module or tool would best support my understanding of this concept?”
  • “Has anyone worked with a similar client presentation? I'm considering [approach]. What other factors would you explore?”
  • “I'm noticing this response repeatedly with clients. What might explain it and where can I find more information?”
  • “Is this a commonly reported response to this supplement or something that warrants further investigation?”
  • “Can someone help me understand the relevance of this marker in relation to [health challenge]? I'm unsure whether it should be a priority at this stage.”
  • “Based on these findings, would you prioritise further investigation, referral or monitoring of this marker?”
  • “What dietary considerations are relevant for clients with [health challenge] and which would you prioritise first?”
  • “Are there important contraindications or safety considerations associated with this supplement in clients with [health challenge]?”
  • “How would you approach stress or sleep support for clients with [health challenge] when adherence is low?”
Sales Calls and Client Conversations
  • “During sales calls, I'm noticing hesitation when price is discussed. What is the most important thing I should focus on improving first in how I communicate value?”
  • “A prospect says they need to think about it. What are 1 to 2 follow-up questions that help me better understand their hesitation without applying pressure?”
  • “How would you respond when a potential client wants results but is worried about committing time?”
  • “What is the difference between a genuine objection and uncertainty, and how should I respond to each?”
  • “What should I prioritise improving first in my sales conversations: confidence, structure or language?”
Sell by Chat and Written Communication
  • “How do you decide when to continue a chat conversation versus inviting someone to a call?”
  • “What is one adjustment that could improve conversion in written responses without sounding scripted?”
  • “How much education is helpful in chat before it becomes overwhelming?”
Offer and Positioning
  • “I'm unsure whether my offer is too broad or too narrow. What is the first thing I should assess to decide?”
  • “How would you simplify an offer without reducing its perceived value?”
  • “What helps a potential client recognise a practitioner's confidence and credibility before results are discussed?”
Marketing and Messaging
  • “What should I prioritise first when marketing with a small audience?”
  • “How do I communicate client outcomes ethically without making guarantees?”
  • “What is a good place to start if marketing feels overwhelming?”
  • “How do you decide which platform to focus on rather than spreading attention across several?”
Confidence, Identity and Practitioner Mindset
  • “What commonly prevents practitioners from converting an interested prospect into a client?”
  • “How do I build confidence in selling when I'm still early in my practitioner journey?”
  • “What is a realistic focus for business development in the first 6 to 12 months?”
  • “How do I communicate confidence while remaining ethical and within my scope of practice?”
Learning and Prioritisation
  • “Which business skill should I become competent in first before exploring advanced strategies?”
  • “How do I decide what business content to focus on now versus what can wait?”
  • “Which module or call would best support improving my sales conversations right now?”

Examples That May Be Redirected

Some questions may be redirected or require further refinement.

Examples include:

  • “Can you go over my whole case?”
  • “Here is everything. Can you tell me what to do?”
  • “Can you check if I'm on the right track?” without identifying a specific decision or outcome
  • “Can you read my whole brochure to check if it's on the right track?”

These requests are often too broad to support focused discussion or meaningful facilitator guidance.

If your question needs refinement, the IOH team may ask you to identify a more specific question, explain your current reasoning or return to a relevant curriculum resource.

The intention is to help you develop the skills to assess information, identify priorities and make informed decisions independently.

Forum Categories and Scope

Each Forum category has a defined purpose.

Please:

  • Post questions in the single most relevant category
  • Avoid cross-posting the same question across multiple categories
  • Use the General Health category if you are unsure where your question belongs

The Complex Cases Forum is reserved for cases that exceed or fall outside existing curriculum coverage or involve multiple overlapping conditions requiring more advanced consideration.

The Student Support Forum is managed by the Accounts Manager and Admin Team and should be used for:

  • Access issues
  • Platform navigation
  • Administrative questions

Questions relating to technical access, enrolments or administration should not be posted in clinical or educational discussion categories.

Blood Work Questions and Cases

Blood work questions may be asked at different levels depending on your progress through the curriculum.

Individual Blood Markers and Concepts

You may ask questions about individual blood markers, reference ranges or learning concepts without meeting the requirements for a complete blood work case.

These questions should remain focused on understanding and educational application.

Full Blood Work Cases

To post a complete blood work case in the Forum or bring one to a live call, all required preparation and eligibility criteria must be met.

This includes:

  • Completion of the Functional Blood Work Module
  • Successful completion of the required Blood Work Assessment
  • Transfer of all blood work results into the IOH blood work sheet
  • Removal of all client-identifying information
  • Completion of the relevant Blueprint
  • Inclusion of your own written hypothesis and reasoning
  • A clear, specific question and desired outcome

All blood work must be fully redacted and presented using the IOH blood work sheet.

These requirements apply equally to cases posted for Forum discussion and those intended for live calls.

Cases that do not meet the requirements may be removed or redirected to the appropriate learning steps.

Peer Engagement and Collaboration

Peer engagement is a core part of learning at the Institute of Health.

Students are encouraged to:

  • Read and engage with other students' questions
  • Contribute ideas, experiences or alternative perspectives
  • Ask respectful clarifying questions
  • Share relevant curriculum resources
  • Participate in discussions even when a question is intended for a live call

You do not need to be an expert to contribute meaningfully.

Sharing your reasoning, asking thoughtful questions and exploring different perspectives can support both your own understanding and the learning of others.

All contributions must remain professional, respectful and within the educational scope of the Forum.

Community Standards

The Forum is a professional learning environment and all members are expected to uphold the IOH Forum Rules.

This includes:

  • Communicating respectfully and professionally
  • Remaining non-judgemental and constructive
  • Keeping discussions within educational and professional scope
  • Respecting client and student confidentiality
  • Avoiding diagnosis, prescribing or treatment recommendations outside your professional qualifications and scope
  • Refraining from self-promotion, lead generation or commercial solicitation
  • Not using private messages to pitch services or initiate unsolicited business discussions
  • Sharing external resources only when they are relevant, educational and non-promotional
  • Not copying, screenshotting or distributing Forum discussions outside the IOH platform

Disagreement and constructive questioning are welcomed, provided discussions remain respectful and focused on learning.

Posts that do not meet Forum requirements may be redirected, moderated or removed.

Moderation and Response Expectations

The Forum is moderated on business days by the IOH team.

Depending on the nature of the question, Facilitators and Student Support Mentors may:

  • Respond directly within the Forum
  • Ask clarifying questions
  • Offer explanations, examples or additional considerations
  • Direct students towards relevant curriculum resources
  • Encourage further peer discussion
  • Identify questions appropriate for live call discussion

For questions marked for Forum discussion, our team aims to respond within 2 business days of posting.

This is a target rather than a guaranteed response timeframe and applies to questions that meet the Forum posting requirements.

Questions intended for live calls are managed according to the live call submission and prioritisation guidelines.

Facilitators may also redirect questions that require further preparation, additional context or a more specific learning outcome.

Students remain responsible for their own learning, preparation and professional judgement.

Using the Forum Well

When used effectively, the Forum becomes a valuable part of your learning experience at the Institute of Health.

It provides opportunities to collaborate, reflect, challenge assumptions and work through ideas while learning from the knowledge and perspectives of others.

At IOH, we recognise that effective health practice requires an integrated understanding of multiple body systems, individual circumstances and the factors influencing client outcomes.

The Forum supports this approach by encouraging you to consider different perspectives, explain your reasoning and make informed decisions.

The goal is to develop practitioners who can think critically, ask meaningful questions, apply their knowledge and continue building professional confidence.

The Forum supports independent thinking, reflection and application. It does not replace them.
